Momentum Management provides install and dismantle labor for some of our clients' shows. They are an EAC or Exhibitor Appointed Contractor at most major trade shows. We find their quality of labor service typically much higher than general Freeman or GES labor. We interviewed Kaete Miller, Senior Account Executive.
How long have you been in the trade show industry, and how did you get started?
My educational background is that I have a Master’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering. I taught at CSU Sacramento for about 4 years, then home-schooled my two children, then opened a construction company specializing in public works projects. Due to family logistics, we had to make some changes – so my secretary suggested I contact a trade show installation firm that her husband worked for regarding a sales position. That was 22 years ago. The rest, as they say, is history!
How long have you been with your current company? Why do you like working with/for them?
I have been with Momentum Management, Inc. for 12 years now. I really enjoy working with them because of their moral compass. The company is based on Godly values, such as honesty, integrity, and hard work.
What is something (or things) you wish exhibitors knew about your services that they don’t seem to know?
Labor is not a commodity. The hourly rate quoted by a company is not necessarily an indication
of the “best purchase option”. Since your invoice is comprised of rate times the number of
hours worked, the quality of the labor is usually a much larger factor in getting the best deal.
What sets your company apart from others who provide similar products?
Focus & Integrity. Momentum is one of just a handful of companies that focus wholly on providing labor. We do not build exhibits, store exhibits, ship exhibits, etc. What we do is install and dismantle booths – primarily at trade shows. Consequently – all of our energy and focus goes to this one focus – allow us to excel. Combine this with Momentum’s integrity and you have a winner!
What do you like about working with Area Design and Build?
We at Momentum greatly enjoy working with Area Design and Build because our value systems reflect and support one another. I know that I can always count on the Area Design team to provide us with timely and complete information - which we need to perform well. Their designs are well thought out, their team is hard working, and providing excellent customer service is a core value at Area Design and Build.
What’s the best tip or trick you’ve learned to help exhibitors have more successful events?
Review with your exhibit house the show move in and move out schedule carefully. You will want to take advantage of as much straight time as possible while considering also the size of the venue and the show, the city the show is in and potential weather delays, whether the booth should go to the advanced warehouse or direct to the show, how much time to allow for the freight to get to the booth from either, how much time your staff needs to put out your product, any pre-show meetings, etc.
Anything else you want us to know about you?
There is never a dull moment in the trade show business! Working with Momentum has been one of the best decisions of my life. I trust you will feel the same way when we set up your booth!
